Friday daily cattle summary

Roma Prime consignments lifted 84%, to 917 head. There was a full field of buyers present and competing in a mostly steady market.
- Heavy C4 grown steers eased 3¢, averaging 303¢/kg
- C4 bullocks improved 1¢, to average 300¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows slipped 5¢, averaging 261¢/kg
- Heavy C3 bulls eased 10¢to average 273¢/kg
Dubbo throughput increased 60%, to 5,600 head. Quality was good, with strong numbers of prime cattle throughout all categories. The market trended cheaper across all categories.
- Medium C3 yearling steers to feed on eased 11¢, averaging 327¢/kg
- Heavy lines to the same orders slipped 7¢, to average 322¢/kg
- Medium C3 yearling heifers to feed decreased 10¢, on 303¢/kg
- Heavy C4 grown steers declined 15¢, averaging 296¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows dropped 11¢, averaging 247¢/kg
Throughput at Bairnsdale more than doubled, to 958 head. Quality was mixed, with a better section of prime cattle but very few young cattle penned. The usual buying group was present and operating a steady market.
- Heavy D3 grown steers improved 6¢, to average 282¢/kg
- D3 bullocks slipped 6¢, averaging 281¢/kg
- Medium D2 manufacturing dairy steers sold at a top of 255¢ and averaged 246¢/kg
- Medium D1 cows increased 2¢, to average 214¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 591.75¢, back 2.00¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
- Trade steers averaged 310¢, back 1¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers averaged 289¢, back 3¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers averaged 299¢, back 3¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows averaged 245¢/kg lwt, steady
- Feeder steers averaged 321¢, back 1¢/kg lwt
