France regains access to Saudi Arabian beef market

Saudi Arabia has re-opened its market to French beef after a 15-year ban related to BSE, according to GlobalMeatNews.com. At this stage, only beef from cattle under 30 months of age will be permitted, although this may be revisited at a later date.
At present, most French beef exports are to other countries in the European Union, which has led the industry to look for new export market opportunities. Other markets allowing entry of French beef this year include Singapore, Vietnam and South Africa. The industry has also been impacted by Russian bans on beef in recent months.
Saudi Arabia is Australia’s largest beef export market in the Middle East, and the ninth largest export market overall. In 2014-15 Australia exported 29,390 tonnes shipped weight (swt) of beef and veal to Saudi Arabia, at a value of $200 million FOB.
