FAO Meat Price Index steady since March

The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) Food Price Index averaged 165.1 points in June 2015, down 1.5 points (1%) on last month’s levels and almost 44 points (21%) below the corresponding month last year.
The overall decline was largely driven by pronounced falls in sugar and dairy prices compared to last month, while cereals and oils increased slightly. All indices remained well-below year-ago levels.
The FAO Meat Price Index averaged 169.8 points in June, only marginally lower than in May. In fact, the Meat Price Index has remained relatively unchanged since March this year. A decline in bovine and ovine meat prices during June was offset by a rise for pigmeat – driven by stronger prices in Europe. Poultry prices were fairly stable for the month.
