Wilmot Field Day motivates the masses
06 March 2025

Whether it’s to stay ahead of the curve or to catch up on what’s changed in agriculture, Wilmot Field Day invited producers to NSW’s Northern Tablelands to learn more about ‘Embracing the change – food, fibre and nature’.
Across the two-day schedule, diverse panels, paddock walks and presentations highlighted climate-smart agricultural practices, drawing advice from experts in the field.
Learning from the best
When it comes to embracing change within agriculture, there’s no headline speaker as fitting as North Dakota rancher Gabe Brown.
Gathered in Wilmot’s woolshed, the 400-strong crowd listened and learned from the founder of Brown’s Ranch, one of the world’s most renowned regenerative farming businesses.
During his keynote speech, Gabe – who is a staunch advocate of building profit through soil health – promoted the invaluable role of livestock when it comes to regenerating soil health.
There were 23 inspiring speakers across the event, including 14 producers.
David Statham – owner of one of the world’s most environmentally sustainable enterprises, Sundown Pastoral – championed innovative thinking, which he utilises to continue reducing his on-farm emissions and waste products, as well as improving traceability avenues in agriculture.
Beef producer Karen Penfold from Four Daughters emphasised the importance of succession planning in a family-owned enterprise.
Power in panels

As Australia’s largest on-farm field day, the stage in Wilmot’s shearing shed is an effective platform when it comes to reaching an audience who is willing to listen and eager to learn.
Throughout the event, a range of panels explored the different facets of sustainable agriculture, including agroforestry and biodiversity, carbon credits, soil carbon projects, and inclusivity and diversity in ag.
MLA’s Group Manager of Sustainability Joe McMeniman joined the panel ‘Can cows capture carbon?’.
Following the panel, Joe said the range of attendees was a testament to the opportunities available in agriculture.
“Events like Wilmot allow you to think outside of the box to a range of opportunities around grazing management, managing soils and vegetation.
“It was an excellent event covering leading innovation, resilient production systems and also expanded into carbon and biodiversity income opportunities and risks.”
As a proud partner of the event, MLA staff were on the ground during Wilmot Field Day to share information about MLA’s industry investments, including how we’re working towards improving environmental management and emissions reduction.
