Update on MSA Led Steer and Carcase competitions
16 January 2023
Following a couple of years of disruptions due to COVID-19, last spring saw the welcome return of MSA Led Steer and Carcase competitions to many shows and communities around Australia. Here’s what you need to know for future events.
Led Steer
For competition organisers and producers wishing to comply with MSA standards in Led Steer competitions, there is a ‘MSA Led Steer Competition Pathway’ guide which outlines the pathway producers and organisers must follow if animals in the competition are to be processed, graded and eligible to be packed as MSA.
Any other enquiries can be directed to MSA at msaenquiries@mla.com.au or 1800 111 672.
Carcase
Carcase competitions across the country use MSA grading as a key component of their carcase judging criteria. In many cases, the MSA Index score can be as much as 50% of the final score in the carcase competition, so meeting MSA minimum standards is critical to an animals’ success.
MSA assists organisers with grading data analysis, scoring against MSA and Market Specification criteria and providing results reports. To find out more, contact msaenquiries@mla.com.au or 1800 111 672.
