Upcoming GICA events

10 September 2024

Goat producers and industry stakeholders are reminded of two upcoming events hosted by the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA).

GICA Industry Information Session

The final in a series of free GICA Industry Information Sessions will be held on Sunday 15 September at the Campbell Town Recreation Ground Complex, Tasmania, from 10am to 2pm.

The meeting will provide the opportunity for producers to meet with industry leaders and hear a range of goat-specific updates, including details about the upcoming new mandatory national traceability requirements for tagging goats.

In all states and territories, all farmed goats born on or after 1 January 2025 must be fitted with an accredited NLIS electronic identification (eID) device before leaving their property of birth. Victoria implemented this change in 2017.

Harvested rangeland goats webinar

GICA will be hosting a webinar in early October, focusing on compliance changes for harvested rangeland goats (HRGs).

GICA President, John Falkenhagen, said the webinar will coincide with the release of the new Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) HRG accreditation module on 1 October 2024.

“GICA, in conjunction with the states and territories, have worked together to agree on an approval pathway to enable HRGs to continue to move device-free from 1 January 2025,” John said.

“The new LPA module for HRGs will be available for LPA accredited goat owners and registered goat depots.

“Goat owners and registered goat depots must obtain accreditation in the new LPA HRG module before 1 January 2025 if they wish to access the HRG NVD and continue tag-free mob-based movements of HRGs once eIDs come into effect nationally.”

Keep an eye on your emails and on social media for more details on how to register for the webinar.

GICA is the peak industry body for the goat industry and is designated as the organisation that develops goat industry policy across all breeds, working with government, industry bodies, producers and other peak industry bodies.
