Tag retention survey open

10 September 2024

Goat producers are invited to participate in a confidential online survey from AgForce, investigating tag retention in goats.

AgForce is a peak organisation representing Queensland's goat, cattle, grain, cane, sheep and wool producers.

The key objectives of the survey include:

  • gaining a better understanding of what experiences producers have had with tag retention
  • investigating certain contexts which potentially contribute to tag loss or retention
  • better advocating for producers by utilising the data to produce better tag retention outcomes.

AgForce says survey results will guide the organisation in advocating for support with the mandatory rollout of individual electronic identification (eID) for managed goats in Queensland, which starts from 1 January 2025, as part of an agreed national initiative.

This technology has been used successfully for cattle in Australia since 2005, and in sheep and goats in Victoria since 2016.
