Beef and sheep producers are encouraged to register for the upcoming MeatUp Forum to be held at Albany, WA, on Tuesday 28 March, with a range of guest speakers set to assist producers in growing their business and production.
MeatUp Forums are designed to demonstrate the value of implementing new practices or technology on-farm and showcase MLA activities, programs and projects that producers can get involved in to further build their knowledge and skills.
MLA’s Managing Director, Jason Strong will open the Albany MeatUp Forum and provide a red meat market update as well as valuable insights into MLA’s adoption programs.
What’s covered
Here are six reasons to mark the 28 March in your diaries and attend the Albany MeatUp Forum.
1. Focus on business profitability: John Francis from Agrista will present on capital investment decisions in the current price climate. He will provide producers with practical tips to tailor their decisions to increase on-farm profitability and decrease risk to create a more sustainable business.
2. Hear from a fellow producer: Producer Paul O’Meehan from Borden will share how a family farm can grow in scale, increase in staff and still maintain its values.
3. Choose your session – cattle or sheep? Attend the cattle session to learn about improving cattle reproduction rates, particularly artificial insemination or take an in depth look at running shedding sheep.
4. Learn new techniques: Pasture ‘guru’ Dan Parnell from Western Dairy will demonstrate how to make the best possible hay and silage.
5. Watch a carcase demonstration: Red meat specialist, Rafale Ramirez, along with WAMMCO’s Rob Davidson, will use a whole carcase to demonstrate the value of different meat cuts and where on-farm practices may impact your bottom line.
6. Go on a virtual farm tour: Producer Jeremy Walker from ‘Kilchatten Farms’ in Green Range showcases the changes he has implemented on-farm with a realistic look at the reasons behind each decision, the success and failures.
