On the menu at LambEx24
16 July 2024
With less than a month to go before the world’s biggest sheep, lamb and wool forum, it’s time to unpack what’s in store for LambEx 2024 while there’s still time to get your tickets.
Returning after six years, LambEx will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 7–9 August, bringing you the latest innovations in the industry.
Come and learn about MLA’s key investment programs which will be showcased at the MLA trade stand.
Genetics
Opportunities within genetics has grown in leaps and bounds in the six years since LambEx was last held. Investment into sheep genetics has expanded significantly, with outcomes such as the increase of genomic testing and the release of research breeding values.
At the Sheep Genetics hub, learn about updates to the Sheep Genetics Flock Profile, where for the first time, reproduction traits and new Merino indexes will be available for commercial merino producers to benchmark their flock on.
MLA staff will be on hand to demonstrate to producers breeding values to shop for, for a high performing sire.
Sustainability
Growing the lamb, sheep and wool industry to be both profitable and sustainable is at the core of all MLA research.
This year the Environmental Credentials platform was launched, which provides an accessible way for producers to show how their on-farm practices result in maintained or improved environmental sustainability.
MLA staff will lead attendees through the latest data on the sustainability performance of the industry through the 2024 Sheep Sustainability Framework annual report, which will be launched at LambEx.
Domestic and international markets
Demand for Australian lamb continues to grow across the globe, underpinned by several brands and campaigns, including True Aussie, the Aussie Meat Academy, and the Lambassador program.
Domestically, Share the Lamb campaigns, such as the well-established annual lamb advertisements which have been aired since 2006, continue to grow awareness of lamb as a signature Australian dish.
Discover why Australian lamb is so popular, with MLA’s corporate chef Sam Burke and MLA’s butcher Doug Piper, who will transform trends into menus with their ‘Cuts to Cuisine’ demonstrations being held across the lunch break on Thursday and Friday.
Australian Good Meat
Learn about the Australian Good Meat program, which is dedicated to communicating and educating with the community as to how the industry cares for the environment and livestock in the production of healthy, nutritious red meat.
The team will be there to educate attendees on what work is being done in this space, including influencer campaigns garnering millions of views, school education resources and programs, and the Red Meat Ambassador program.
Adoption and R&D
MLA invests millions of dollars into research and development within the red meat industry, with recent work going into increasing lamb profits through increasing weaning rates and decreasing mortality, and improving industry climate adaption readiness.
At the Adoption and R&D hub, learn about the abundance of work being done in the sheep industry, and how you can get involved to implement new processes into your own business.
Meat Standards Australia
Australian food processors are increasingly using Meat Standards Australia to ensure consistent eating quality throughout all their products, and to underpin their success as a brand.
The system is based on almost 1.7 million consumer taste tests by more than 250,000 consumers from 13 countries.
At LambEx, learn about new developments to improve MSA, including the MSA Sheepmeat Model, Objective Carcase Measurement Technology, and where producers can access and utilise carcase feedback.
Market insights
Growing sheep which is in demand is impossible without knowing what the customer wants.
MLA provides the insights a producer needs to meet consumer demands, including online indicators, the Sheep Producer Intention Survey, and the upcoming release of the sheep projections.
