New NFAS video launched

10 December 2018

In collaboration with AUS-MEAT and MLA, the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association (ALFA) has produced a video to help producers and consumers alike understand the quality assurance program behind the Australian lot feeding industry, the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS).

The NFAS is an independently audited quality assurance program for the Australian lot feeding industry that was initiated by ALFA and is managed by AUS-MEAT through the Feedlot Industry Accreditation Committee (FLIAC). The sourcing of livestock from NFAS-accredited feedlots is a prerequisite for beef processed in AUS-MEAT-accredited processing establishments being marketed as grain fed or grain fed young beef.

NFAS was the first agriculturally-based quality assurance program in Australia and its success has seen it provide a framework for subsequent industry schemes. NFAS has helped deliver a quality assurance culture in the sector. It’s also the cornerstone of the Australian grainfed beef industry, for both the export and domestic markets.

NFAS accreditation is not synonymous with ALFA membership. Therefore, lot feeders who are NFAS-accredited need to separately become ALFA Feedlot members to receive the benefits that membership provides.
