Goat workshops prove popular

More than 85 people flocked to a series of goat producer workshops in Queensland in February that were hosted by Antap International, one of Australia's largest exporters of meat into the Pacific region.

Antap International Managing Director, John Wallace, said producers from as far afield as Cudal in NSW, and Longreach and Tambo, attended the workshops in St George, Dirranbandi and Roma.

“Everybody came to the workshops with the desire to either learn more about the goat industry or to improve their current goat operations,” John said.

“We identified some time ago that there was a massive void in the information and training available to goat producers throughout Australia.

“With this in mind, we decided that the education of producers would be our starting point.

“The key to the success of this venture is having a good, reliable, well-educated supply chain that will consistently produce the quality item that we require for our domestic and export markets.

“This education will also extend to our meat wholesalers, butcher shops and hospitality trade.

“The producer feedback we received at each workshop was simply unbelievable, with producers saying that the type of information that was delivered by our presenters has been needed for many years.”

The workshops included presentations on goat production from consultant Graham Reimers, as well as animal nutrition from Paul Pritchard, National Sales Manager for Ag Solutions and Kym Southerland, founder and owner of Beachport Liquid Minerals.

“These workshops were just the start of the education program for producers,” John said.

“Antap plans to conduct similar workshops in north west NSW in the near future and any producers interested in attending these workshops can email livestock@antap.com.au for more details.”
