GICA set to host in-person events

21 June 2024

Goat producers and industry stakeholders are invited to attend a series of in-person meetings being held throughout Australia, hosted by the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA).

The meetings will provide the opportunity for producers to meet with industry leaders and hear a range of goat-specific updates from organisations including GICA, MLA, Integrity Systems Company (ISC), State agriculture/primary industry departments, and State Farming Organisations.

The meetings will be held at the following locations:

  • 17 July: Quorn, South Australia
  • 17 August: Mt Pleasant, South Australia
  • 23 to 27 August: three locations across New South Wales
  • 29 August: Charleville, Queensland
  • 30 August: Longreach, Queensland
  • 15 September: Tasmania
  • Early October: Victoria

GICA President, John Falkenhagen, said the meetings will be information sharing events, covering a range of topics including changes to livestock traceability compliance for the goat industry, and the latest research and development (R&D) updates.

“There is a lot happening in the goat industry including the national implementation of the NLIS individual electronic identification (eID) system for goats by 1 January 2025, and two new National Vendor Declarations (NVDs) for the industry,” John said.

“There is also a new Harvested Rangeland Goat (HRG) Accreditation system which will be presented at the meetings in States where it is most relevant to those producers.”

GICA is the peak industry council for the goat industry and is designated as the organisation that develops goat industry policy across all breeds, working with government, industry bodies, producers and other peak industry councils.

The one-day meetings are free to attend and will be held from 10am to 2pm.

More information will be advertised closer to the events.
