BredWell FedWell comes to Charters Towers

03 October 2023

Beef producers from northern Queensland have the opportunity to participate in Meat & Livestock Australia’s (MLA) new and improved BredWell FedWell workshop, incorporating the latest developments in genetics and nutrition. The workshop is being held on 5 October at Wambiana Station, 70kms southwest of Charters Towers.

The extension and adoption field has changed significantly since BredWell FedWell was first launched in 2012, with more information and tools now available to help producers apply the outcomes of genetics and nutrition research within their businesses.

Local hosts of the upcoming BredWell FedWell workshop, Michael and Michelle Lyons of “Wambiana”, are excited to invite producers to their property for the workshop. “A highlight of the workshop is the opportunity for participants to apply the technical knowledge gained about BREEDPLAN Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) to assess cattle in the yards on the day” Michael said.

During the workshop, attendees also examine their own feed supply and demand and critically consider their approaches to feeding in order to maximise their genetic investment.

Producers will come away with skills to:

  • help them develop a customised breeding objective aligned to their profit drivers;
  • identify sires and select animals that help meet their breeding objective; and
  • plan to feed their animals to achieve their breeding objective.

The new, highly visual, easy to follow and engaging one-day workshop will benefit producers wanting to gain confidence in managing their genetics and nutrition.

There are still places available for the 5 October workshop. To find out more and register, visit: www.mla.com.au/bredwellfedwell
