New appointment to strengthen RD&A investment in Western Australia

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) has today announced the appointment of Dr David Beatty in a new Perth-based role to manage and drive MLA’s research, development and adoption (RD&A) investments across the entire red meat sector in Western Australia.
Dr Beatty will take on the role of Program Manager – Value Chain RD&A and will be responsible for driving MLA’s strategies for Western Australia across the RD&A portfolios the length of the value chain, including live export as well as red meat.
Dr Beatty has worked for MLA for nine years, and most recently was MLA’s International Business Manager for the Middle East and North Africa based in Dubai, where he led MLA’s live export and marketing programs in this important export region.
Making the announcement at the Pastoralists & Graziers Association of Western Australia (PGA) Annual Convention in Perth yesterday, MLA Managing Director Richard Norton said Dr Beatty brings a wealth of experience to the role, particularly through his last five years in the Middle East – Western Australia’s major live export and boxed meat market.
“Western Australia is a vital region for Australia’s entire red meat and livestock sector,” Mr Norton said.
“Dr Beatty will provide an on-the-ground presence in Western Australia, enabling him to work closely with local producers and industry stakeholders across the entire value chain on delivering MLA’s research, development and adoption investment.”
MLA General Manager – Producer Consultation & Adoption, Michael Crowley, said Dr Beatty would be a welcome and valuable addition to the Senior Management of MLA’s Producer Consultation & Adoption team.
“Having a presence in Western Australia to help drive the MLA’s RD&A across the entire value chain will be beneficial for the entire industry,” Mr Crowley said.
“The PCA team are responsible for investments in adoption, producer consultation for R&D priorities, livestock genetics and MSA, working closely with producers to drive adoption of R&D outcomes that contribute to increasing productivity and reducing costs of production. David will bring a strong and co-ordinated presence to these areas in Western Australia.”
Dr Beatty will commence in his new role in January 2018.
