Australian national meat judging team announced

26 August 2016

Five students have been named as the 2016 Australian National Meat Judging team to travel to America in January 2017.

This week 20 Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging students joined the Meat & Livestock Australia team in Brisbane for a complete paddock to plate tour of the Queensland meat industry. Over five days the students visited working farms and butchers, Australian Country Choice and Oakey Beef Exports processing plants, Kerwee Feedlot and Swickers Pork Processing Facility.

The 10 finalists, and 10 coach’s pick students, were selected for their performance at the Intercollegiate Meat Judging (ICMJ) week held in Wagga Wagga from Monday, July 4, to Friday, July 8. Here, almost 170 students from 14 different institutions from Australia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and the USA participated in industry presentations, interactive workshops, a careers expo and two meat judging competitions.

On Wednesday the top five students were selected to join Australian coaches Demelsa Lollback and Tim Ryan on an extensive four-week tour of the US meat industry in January, where they will represent Australia at three meat judging competitions.

Congratulations to the top five students Macky Lawrence from Charles Sturt University, Olivia Swan from Murdoch University, Chloe Gould from the University of Queensland, and Gabrielle Ryan and Rachel Tulloch from the University of Sydney.
