Maidens, Measurement & Merch Field Day

The Maidens, Measurement & Merch Field Day is part of an MLA Funding Producer Demonstration Site (PDS) project, ‘Making Maidens Weight’, aiming to observe the relationship between fertility and ewe weight at joining over several years. This PDS is designed to assist producers in implementing practices that will improve pregnancy and lamb marking rates using peer-to-peer learning, resources, and access to experts.

Topics to be covered include:

• PDS and its results
• Importance of wet and drying for improving flock fertility
• Value in weighing your sheep
• Process for using data to make decisions
• Equipment and technology available for managing electronic identification (eID) tags

Throughout the day the following equipment will be on display:

• wands, readers and weighing equipment
