Australasian Plant Breeding Conference
The 16th Australasian Plant Breeding Conference (APBC) will be held as a Hybrid event, meaning we will have the in-person meeting at QT Hotel, Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia on 9 - 11 May 2022 and also streamed live virtually to those that are not able to attend in-person due to international border restrictions.
This is the first conference since 2014 and we believe there will be great benefits by providing this new opportunity for breeders and allied scientists across all crops (including grains, fodder, fruit and nuts, forestry, floriculture) to come together.
The theme “Towards 2050” has been chosen to capture the long-term nature of plant breeding, and the essential role the discipline will play in delivering food and prosperity to the predicted world population of 9 billion by this date, in the face of decreasing available production area, climate change and demand for new products.
Topics for each session will be developed from submitted abstracts across the broad sub-themes of:
- Predictive breeding
- Products for markets
- Dealing with the impacts of variability and climate change
- Preparing for the future
