Fightback against Dieback

Date: Monday 3 May
Time: 3.30pm – 5.00pm
Venue: The Paterson Room
Cost: FREE

Unlike pasture decline or ‘rundown’ which causes gradual loss of productivity over time, ‘dieback’ is a broad term referring to areas of pasture plants dying rapidly without obvious cause – this is not unique to pasture grass but happens in many plants and trees.

First emerging as a serious problem in central Queensland in the 1990’s and re-occurring again since 2017, pasture dieback is now affecting areas stretching from north Queensland and into northern New South Wales.

This seminar will feature both research and firsthand producer experiences that explore the resilient measures being undertaken to fight back against this complex condition. You’ll learn more about identifying pasture dieback, the circumstances that cause dieback outbreaks, the relationship of pasture mealybug and dieback, and strategies to feed livestock and assist to reduce business risk.
