Back to Meat safety and traceability

Integrity Matters March 2018

Changes to the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program are now in full swing.

Introduced in October last year, the changes involve the continual strengthening of vital components of the integrity system that ensures Australian red meat can continue to be sold in more than 100 markets globally.

This system supports consumer trust that our product is produced in a safe and ethical way. But as consumer expectations change and evolve, the integrity system must also continually improve and develop. At Integrity Systems Company, our focus is on streamlining the system and developing tools that make it easier for producers.

In this edition of Integrity Matters, we outline some of the changes and improvements across the system, and how producers can access information and support to provide livestock traceability and assurance.

I encourage producers to complete the online LPA Learning modules and ensure you understand what is expected on-farm. Meeting these requirements helps strengthen the food safety, integrity and traceability promises of Australian red meat to both domestic and international customers. And should you be subject to a random LPA audit, you can rest easy knowing you’ve met the requirements.

A range of information is available on www.mla.com.au and if you have questions, please call the hotline on 1800 683 111 or send an email to lpa@mla.com.au. We all have a part to play in integrity system that protects our $23 billion red meat industry.
