Meat the Market

Lamb compliance

This training package is designed to support producers to follow their lambs through the supply chain from farm to the retail shelf using the Livestock Data Link program. Producers will be upskilled in interpreting and managing the feedback through the process to make improvements on farm to lift the percentage of lambs meeting processor compliance.

What you will learn

  • how to set up Livestock Data Link or a similar proprietary objective carcase feedback system and understand what it is telling you
  • the essential terminologies and what they mean
  • what goes on in meat processing and how measurements are taken
  • how on-farm practices impact market compliance
  • how to identify the right genetics to improve compliance
  • what the consumer wants in meat
  • how to implement a plan to improve your market compliance.

This package was developed with meat processors to build producer knowledge on how on-farm management impacts the quality of the meat available to consumers. Learning will take place both on-farm and in processing facilities to allow a hands-on approach and to learn about practical solutions to compliance issues.

Participants will use Livestock Data Link or a similar program throughout the training to improve their knowledge of the performance of their sheep and where they can improve.

Along the way knowledge will be built in ram selection, animal nutrition, animal health and pasture management.
