Profitable Grazing Systems (PGS) is a group-based training program which uses supported learning packages (SLPs) to deliver training and coaching over several months and up to a year to improve producer skills and knowledge.
Through PGS, participants have the opportunity to develop and practice skills with small groups of like-minded producers to improve business performance.
PGS is a ‘user pays' program, with MLA contributing through the funding of a percentage of the participant cost. MLA also provides program delivery and promotional support.

Three reasons to get involved in a PGS training program

Flexibility
It’s a flexible program that enables you and your coach to develop a training package responsive to your area, your needs and your conditions.

Whole-of-farm approach
PGS takes a whole-of-farm business approach to improve business performance and drive profit.

Hands-on learning
You work with small groups of like-minded producers with an experienced coach to support you.

Do you want to learn about genetics and reproduction, the value chain, feedbase or managing people and business?
All packages work on building skills which improve on-farm outcomes in productivity, profitability, sustainability and wellbeing. This is achieved by coaches who work closely with you in small groups and one-on-one in a range of settings, including on-farm.

Become a PGS deliverer
PGS is seeking coaches who can work with producers using existing supported learning packages or packages they have developed themselves.
PGS coaches come from a range of backgrounds and levels of experience, relying on their facilitation skills to deliver supported learning packages to small groups.
PGS saw significant growth in engagement and return on investment to producers in 2021–22. This was largely driven by the increased delivery of PGS supported learning packages (SLPs) throughout northern Australia. As a result of this, producers representing more than 18m hectares in northern regions were engaged in the program.
On average, northern beef producers participating in a PGS SLP can expect an additional net benefit of between $4-$17/km2 annually. On average, southern producers participating in an PGS SLP can expect an additional net benefit of between $2.50-$20/ha annually.
