Falling in lamb 2008 POS Falling in Lamb returns for an encore performance this spring

The Hollywood inspired Falling in Lamb campaign has returned to build demand for lamb during spring for the second consecutive year after receiving rave reviews in 2007.

 

The television commercial featuring two people falling in love over lamb, was found to very strongly communicate the message that Lamb ‘is delicious to eat,’ while many retailers reported strong lamb sales as a result of the 2007 campaign, leading to its return to air this September along with new promotional materials. Lowest flock for over 80 years but lamb prices to stay strong
Australia’s prime lamb producers can expect to receive strong prices over the next few years, however the nation’s flock is set to shrink to a size not seen since the beginning of last century, according to MLA's 2008 Sheep Industry Projections mid-year update, released on 4 August.

In releasing the report, MLA’s chief market analyst Peter Weeks said the future of the lamb industry looks bright, however the continuation of the drought through a seventh winter and further rises in global grain prices have caused a lowering of projections for the sheep flock and supply. Record Australian lamb export returns
The value of Australian lamb exports increased 6% during 2007-08, as increased shipments and very strong demand from most markets helped to partially offset the impact of the stronger A$ on export prices. Shipments for 2007-08 were valued at a record A$824 million FOB – an increase of 200% since 1997-98 (Australian Bureau of Statistics). Find out more...

 





Cattle industry growth on hold... for now
Against a backdrop of buoyant global meat prices, the Australian cattle and beef industries should be gearing up for expansion, but a number of factors have put this on hold.
