Aussie Halal brand goes global
The unique Halal brand that was developed last year by MLA for use in the Middle East red meat market has now gone global and is set to appear with Australian red meat sold in Islamic countries around the world. MLA’s Middle East regional manager, Ian Ross said the global expansion of the Halal brand is an important step towards expanding markets for Australian red meat, with 28 percent of the world’s population being Muslim, and with most of these people living in countries with growing economies. Lowest flock for over 80 years but lamb prices to stay strong Australia’s prime lamb producers can expect to receive strong prices over the next few years, however the nation’s flock is set to shrink to a size not seen since the beginning of last century, according to MLA's 2008 Sheep Industry Projections mid-year update, released on 4 August.
In releasing the report, MLA’s chief market analyst Peter Weeks said the future of the lamb industry looks bright, however the continuation of the drought through a seventh winter and further rises in global grain prices have caused a lowering of projections for the sheep flock and supply. **October 2008 MLA lamb survey**
MLA recently launched a NEW lamb survey designed to obtain feedback from lamb producers to identify lamb production trends.
Results from the survey will be used by MLA as the basis for our lamb supply forecasting activities. The information collected will also assist the lamb industry as a whole to develop future market enhancement programs. In return for your assistance, MLA will email you the aggregated survey results and Sheepmeat projections.
